Abriana's Journey with Alice in Wonderland

This is a really neat takeoff on Alice in Wonderland. In this case a girl named Abriana is in the 7th grade. She happens to be black which becomes important to the story.

She meets an old woman, is given a wishing coin and ends up in Wonderland right there with Alice who is going through her journey through that strange country. There's a lot of cultural and time clash her with Abriana from the U.S. and Alice from England and Alice from an 1862 England and Abrian from present day America.

There's also a lot of mistaken identity as the people Abriana runs into, including Alice, think that she is a slave because she is black. Abriana keeps having to explain that no, she is not a slave, there is no slavery in the U.S. and she's a quite capable young girl that is free.

Abriana also keeps confusing the events that she and Alice are going through with the events in the Disney movie version of the story and as things go on the differences increase. When the caucus race gets out of control she's able to find an innovative solution.

Things get quite wild at the croquet game where the Queen of Hearts finds out that Abriana is not someone easily bullied.

The story's really good and very, very hilarious in parts.
