The Annotated Alice:The Definitive Edition

This includes Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and The Wasp and the Wig, which was a section that was planned for Alice in Wonderland but was removed.

The original stories and illustrations are included, of course, and in the margins of each page are numerous notes about the stories themselves. The notes range from examining the mathematics involved in a particular section, examining the use of particular words and how they have changed over time, along with how the material in the story reflected specific events and people which were concurrent with Dodgson's lifetime.

A lot of the annotations are really interesting. There are some that are somewhat boring, I feel, but those are in the minority. If you are a fan of the Alice stories and are interested in the specific background and meanings in them, then this is a book you will want to add to your collection.
