Alice at Monkey Island

Pentagon Publishing, 1946.

Alice finds a book in the attic and starts to read it but then falls asleep and begins her adventure. She ends up in a boat and lands. While having a picnic an old man comes up to her and asks for food which she gives him. The old man turns into a boy around her age who had been placed under a spell by a magician working for a rival king.

She goes for help for the prince but runs into trouble on another island where she ends up inside a house. Alice meets a number of characters which, while not from the traditional stories, do fit the general tone of those stories. She helps the prince overcome the king in a series of somewhat comical adventures.
