Jabberwocky

This uses the original poem from Lewis Carroll. Misha and Teia are becoming 16 in a ceremony. The Jabberwocky attacks. It kills two of the men and kidnaps the girls. Then we are introduced to Tjaden. He's working with a friend and he has a girlfriend.

Elora gets in trouble and Tjaden goes to help her. He sees a bandersnatch. He fights it, saving Elora, but gets injured in the process. Tjaden wants to compete in a fighting series to help him get into the King's Elite guard. Tjaden gets an invitation for Elite guard training.

On the way home from a major city Elora and the group of Elite with her is attacked by a Jabberwocky. Elora is taken by the beast. Tjaden plans to try to rescue her, but his captain says he must train for two weeks before he can try. The Jabberwocky attacks the city and kills the king.

Tjaden finds out that not everything he has been told about the kingdom or the jabberwocky has been true, and a lot was concealed from him and still is. Personal politics and revenge are heavily involved.

On the ride to meet the Jabberwocky he meets the Cheshire Cat. Once he finds Elora and the Jabberwocky, though, he finds out the extent of the lies he has been told. One muse die, but revenge after death is possible.

A really, really good book.
