Through the Looking Glass

Classics Illustrated, Berkeley edition. 1990.

I don't care very much for the cover. Alice looks like a statue, for one thing.

There's a page that explains what Classics Illustrated comics are about, and then a text page about the history of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.

Right off I really don't like the artwork in the issue. I think it's primitive in appearance and not attractive at all. The appearance of the text parts of the story is also a little odd. There is a lot of the original text, which is good, and the Jabberwocky poem, which is also good.

It's hard to figure why Alice is so often drawn with her eyes not being shown. There will usually just be black slated lines.

After the story it includes some information on Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) and the artist for the issue.

Overall, I think this is probably one of the worst editions of the story I have seen. As I have noted above, the artwork is terrible. It fits something that might be a book on gangsters but not one on Alice. The appearance of the text is sort of odd and overall it just doesn't work.
