Alice in Deadland

In general, what this book is presenting is a future world that is totally possible. It's a world where the multi-national corporations, the ultra-rich and various other powerful men have taken control of things and will stop at nothing to keep that control, even if it means killing millions of people by using atomic bombs.

Alice is fifteen. Civilization has collapsed due to vampires. Alice has learned how to shoot them in the head. She spots a Biter wearing bunny ears. The Biter disappears into a hole and Alice wonders if it leads to a vast underground Biter base. She runs across the rabbit biter and two others, managing to kill two of them. She then has to run since she is being chased by more of them.

The war between the two groups had started with the Biters appearing and increasing in number to the point where governments used nuclear weapons against concentrations of the creatures, in the end all governments falling and civilization being reduced to simple survival. She gets caught by some biters but the rabbit and the other biters stop attacking her and end up in awe of her.

Alice then meets a human who the biters regard as their Queen. The Queen has the last book left in Deadland, and it's Alice in Wonderland, and Alice is supposed to lead the biters to victory. Alice finds out the truth behind everything that had happened and the truth again involves politics and weapons. It also involves the rich and the power and their plan to start a New World Order where their rule will not be questioned. She later finds out the group is composed of Chinese and the ultra-rich bankers and such-like people.

Dewan, a Zeus employee who had been friendly towards Alice, leaves his laptop with the people. Things get really bad, though, and the Chinese use saturation bombing to kill people in settlements, wiping them out entirely. They also arrest any Zeus forces that had had desertions.

The depth of the Chinese desire to rule the world is shown, but the depth of love of the people for having some control over their own lives carries its own weight. A major guerrilla war against the Red Guards is waged, and the biters come back into the story.

The struggle is still going on at the end of the book.
