The Wonderland Gambit: Book 3: The Hot Wired Dodo

This is not an Alice in Wonderland variant, basically. It does use many of the characters from the story and the primary people in the story are actually divided into the various suits and are marked on their bodies as to their level.

The main story, though, is centered on the question of what is reality. A massive computer system can create innumerable worlds where people, or other beings, can live and assume the world they live in, and they, actually exist in 'reality'. They are all computer constructs, though. There are 52 people who reincarnate and/or move from one level of reality to another with their goal being power and eventually to somehow break through into the actual 'real' world.

There's a lot of changing of sex and body forms (as was seen in the Wellworld series of books). There's also a lot of killing and a lot of suffering.

This book is the last in the series. If you are a Chalker fan you will definitely like the series but if you are not into the types of books Chalker writes then you should pass this one by as it's not really linked firmly in the Alice in Wonderland world.
