Alice's Magic Garden

This is a hardback book for young children and is basically a prequel to Alice in Wonderland. In this story Alice is at a 'dreary' boarding school. This is shown by the type of artwork used in which the school and the girls there are shown in a gray color while while Alice is eventually shown in color.

The girls are nasty bullies to her so Alice has no friends. The head of the school is also quite nasty. One day Alice finds what is basically a neglected garden and she takes care of it. She notes the animal life there include a caterpillar, a white rabbit and what is supposed to be a lory but which looks more like a gryphon.

The girls are not going to let her continue working in the garden without trying to destroy it first but Alice finds certain friends are willing to help her.

It's kind of a nice prequel concept but it does take some liberties with the original story.
