Great Performances

This is a combination of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Frankly, I really don't like it at all.

I have some problems with this version. First, the woman playing Alice is too old for the part. I also think that some of the lines she delivers are don't sound like Alice usually sounds.

Alice asks how to find the way out of the pool but it's obvious that they are all standing on land.

Alice and the mouse dance? Then the mouse sings.

Then the White Rabbit appears and does his 'paws and whiskers' speech but there are no paws and no whiskers since the actor has removed those parts of his outfit.

You can be no longer in your teens, have a figure that no young girl would have and still come across as a young girl (which I've seen in one of the Alice in Wonderland movies) or you can have that but still not come across as a young girl which is the case with the actress playing Alice in this DVD. She just appears and acts older than she should.

Alice in this version also speaks in a rather petulant manner. She acts like she's rather sure of herself whereas the Alice of the story is quite unsure of herself.

The play then goes into Through the Looking Glass (but without Alice going through a looking glass.)
