Alice and the Art of Literary Image

The book is an academic examination of literary images in the Alice in Wonderland books. The writer starts off by listing types of literary images in the story:

1. Tenniel illustrations
2. Textual references to #1
3. Figured verse (the mouse's tale)
4. Asking readers to imaging their own figures
5. Description of something concrete

He also shows the relationship between ideas, images and scenes in a story. He divides the book into themed segments.

1. Chapters 1-5 where Alice is timid
2. Chapters 6 and 7 where Alice forms opinions
3. Chapters 8 to 12 where Alice becomes bold

Alice learns how to control her height and gradually takes command of her own destiny as the story moves on. He says that the images in the book are connected to how children think and act. There's more in the book, of course, including a very good bibliography. If you like academic books about the original story then you should get this one.
