Alice in Wonderland by Jan Svankmajer, 1988

A film combining live action and stop motion animation.

Alice throwing small rocks into the creek.

This film has one of the strangest openings of all the films about Alice I've seen. She goes from throwing rocks into a creek to throwing rocks into a teacup. There's also a part that is very close up on someone's lips like in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

She apparently has a white rabbit that is making noise.

Make that a dead, stuffed rabbit that comes alive and pulls itself free.

The rabbit then puts its gloves on.

He smashes his way out of the tank.

This is going to be annoying as all get out if they continue using this image.

Then her room ends up opening into this area. The table contains a drawer that is the entryway to Wonderland.

Alice finds the entryway.

Alice falls into a bucket and finds herself descending, maybe in an elevator? At least it sounds like one.

She falls through the ceiling of a room, lands on leaves, the leaves vanish into a desk drawer, she finds a key in the desk drawer and the key fits a door which does not lead into a garden. Unless things change in a very, very major way I will end up considering this one of the worst, if not the worst version of Alice in Wonderland that I have seen.

Oh, yes, no music and fair amounts of time there's no sounds at all.

This just keeps getting worse. Alice, after she has drunk something from a bottle (that did not say Drink Me).

Alice in the Pool of Tears with the mouse approaching.

The mouse is now on her head.

It has driven two twigs into her head and is getting ready to cook something. She submerges herself and eventually gets out of the room. The rabbit calls her Mary Ann, as in the book, and here is yet another annoying thing with this film. There's one girl/woman doing all the narration, all the characters.

The white rabbit's house, although she has to go through two wire mesh doors first to get to the door leading to this room.

For some reason various characters are partial or full skeletons.

Alice gets deposited into a room after turning into a doll.

An egg hatches looking like a Sleestak skull. Lots of other strange things happen. This whole part of the film makes no sense at all (actually, most of the film makes no sense at all.)

Yes, it gets even worse. This is supposed to be the caterpillar.

The house of the duchess.

The frog footman.

The Mad Hatter's tea party. Supposedly.

The Queen of Hearts.

The rabbit uses scissors to take the heads off two cards.

The croquet game. Loosely. Then the flamingos change into chickens and the pincushions into hedgehogs.

This is the trial scene. (Watching this thing is a trial, indeed.)

Alice awakes. The rabbit is missing.
