Hunting of the Snark

This is a DVD movie. It's a stop-motion animation using puppets. One of the first things I noticed was one of the characters carrying a cell phone which means the writers are not tying the movie into the time of Lewis Carroll.

The way they are doing the movie has parts of it conversations between the characters but not taken from the poem itself, and then parts from the poem. These parts, though, do not necessarily include all the words of the poem and sometimes add or change words.

In Fit 2 we find out one of the passengers is an escaped convict. Things go rapidly downhill as the convict puts something into their soup. The ship also has a GPS type of think but it is malfunctioning and is has a very bad attitude.

In Fit 7 the Banker is taken, as in the poem. However, in this version, he apparently has died. They start the Fit 8 part with a memorial for the banker which is not in the poem.

In a rather humorous part the thief is captured by two strange creatures and dragged away. No one seems to notice.

So, what we have is a movie about the poem with good bits of the poem left out, a death thrown in, a thief thrown in and characters that appear rather frightening in the way they have been built. I”m quite disappointed.
