Spades

This is one of the Alice-related books that you stumble upon primarily by accident. The main character is Bryony. At age 8 someone tried to run her down. At 11 she was raped and she's now 17 years old. She has dreamt of Wonderland. Her mother is insane and her father is a drunk.

Someone tells her he wants her to return to Wonderland. She tells a friend Wonderland is a dark and dangerous place. It turns out she is a distant relative of the Alice of the story. One down the rabbit hole she encounters a very different form of Wonderland where the flowers, instead of just saying nasty things, actually eat people. The White Rabbit is known as the Rabid Knight.

It turns out her task is to fix things that the original Alice upset. Her first task turns out trying to get rid of the Pool of Tears which, by this time, is an ocean. There are also Dark Elves there, divided into Drow (royalty), Demonlings (like the Cheshire Cat), Darklings (Native Americans, the Carpenter) and Faeries. She also finds out the fate of the original Alice. (Which raises the question of how could she be an actual descendant killed before she could have children.)

This is a good book but it ends abruptly indicating that there should be more books in the series but I haven't been able to find any others or indication that any others are in process.
