Alice in Wonderland High

This is a very interesting novel. The reader actually needs to be fairly familiar with Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass in order to get the most out of the story as the references to the two works are subtle and are closely tied in to the characters and events in this story.

Alice Liddell goes to Wonderland High. Her parents were eco-activists and were killed in a car accident. She lives with her sister Lorina. The principal of the school is named Dodgson. The story is centered on Alice wanting to join a group of eco-activists from the school, falling for one of them.

A lot goes wrong, though, as there's a constant move along the line between eco-activism and eco-terrorism. All the characters in the story are well done and the main characters have reasons for the way they act. There are numerous references to the original Alice stories although they are not spoken on purpose as references to those works.

There's a lot of questioning of what is right and what is wrong in relation to the environment and people's needs. There's the possibility of the township itself being behind the death of her parents and there's a lot of conflict between Alice and Lorina. The story would be good even without the references in them but the references make it even better.
