Ape Nation

This is a series that combines Alien Nation with the Planet of the Apes mythos. Personally, I didn't care for the Planet of the Apes series at all which is why I waited a bit before I got this series.

Issue #1

This was put out in 1991. The first few pages have split screens, basically, in which we see both an ape family and a Techtonese family together. Then it goes to an opening narration by an ape named Heston (who else?) who is going to have to give a report to the council about information he obtained from traveling apes. A group of apes were hunting a human who had killed an ape. The human was a guy named Simon. They then spotted a spaceship landing and a group of Newcomers got off the ship. Heston is assigned to go with some other apes to investigate the story. Elsewhere there's another ape that wants to attack Ape City. Simon has joined up with him as Ollo, the ape leader, is forming his own group. Three Newcomers have also joined them and it's apparent one of them wants to conquer the Earth. The leader of the Newcomers explains how his ship ended up on Earth, and how he is going to form a troika with Ollo, the human and the Newcomers in order to take over the world. The group with Heston is overwhelmed by the Ape/Human/Newcomer army and Heston is captured and taken to the alien spaceship. The army is making its way towards Ape City, now about a month away. Danada is the leader of the Newcomers, a position he took by force. His brother is locked up in the ship next to Heston and tells him his story. The two escape from the ship but the Newcomer (Caan) gets drunk on goat's milk and is captured again. Simon finally realizes Ollo and Danada have turned against him when he, Caan and an ape are attacked. Heston keeps searching for Caan but instead finds his sister who he thought had been killed by Simon. Meanwhile the Army is continuing its march towards Ape City. The Ape/Newcomer army is still approaching Ape City. Only three individuals stand against the entire army. Back at the spaceship, one of the evil leaders is killed by one of the other evil leaders, and an ape and a Newcomer figure out a way to get the apes and Newcomer guards to fight each other. Eventually the attacking army is left leaderless and collapses, allowing the Newcomers to go back and fix their spaceship and the apes to get on with their lives.
