The Firstcomers

This is the third four-issue series on Alien Nation.

The story opens in Texas in 1949 near a farm where the people get woken up by a loud sound and a bright light. A flying saucer crashes on a farm (similar to Roswell two years earlier.) Meanwhile, in 1995, a guy breaks into some kind of storage office and steals some top secret files and escapes. He's a reporter of some kind.

Unfortunately for the reporter, some one has already found out and they kill him. At the funeral an attorney turns the files over to Emily, a Newcomer, who knew Jack. The story then goes back to 1949 as Emily reads a journal a doctor kept during that time.

What the doctor finds are extraterrestrials that look like the ones at Roswell. At least one of them, though, is still alive. Things go bad as someone now goes after Emily and someone she didn't expect to see also shows up. That's a lot of stuff happening in a first issue.

Jack is able to get Emily away from the gunman and he ends up taking her to his ex-wife's place. They take a cab to Emily's lover's place and find him and another Newcomer dead. Jack, by the way, doesn't like the Newcomers even though he tried to get into Emily's pants once before.

Jack and Emily go talk to the guy who lived on the farm when the 1949 crash happened and they find out some stuff from him. They leave, but the guy isn't alone for very long. The story is still very good.

Jack and Emily run into car trouble. They try to take refuge in a town but it seems everyone there hates Newcomers with a full violence. Some punk kid comes after them with a shotgun but he sees a Roswell-type alien and runs off. It turns out there are a lot of the Roswell-type aliens, a full air base, and capture of the native human population.

The punk kid tries to kill himself. The person trailing Jack and Emily catches up to them. The Roswell-type aliens have something to say about the entire matter, though. The end of the story is sort of open, but it makes sense.
