BARBIE, THE DOLL THAT CHANGED THE WORLD OF LITTLE GIRLS: Its history and secrets

The book talks about Ruth Handler, Mattel and some of the things Mattel has made including hot wheels and American Girl.

It talks abut the 1959 first appearance of Barbie, how Barbie is a cultural icon, the Barbie film, a fictional biography, the Bild Lilli doll and cultural changes and their effect on Barbie.

Apparently there was a Barbie in an episode of the X-Files.

It also talks about the Barbie You Tube channel, derivative products, doll homes, online games, the Barbie Expo, film and television adaptations and video games.

It also covers how Barbie has expanded into cultural diversity and how Barbie is banned in Saudi Arabia and Iran.

This book is more focused on Barbie and culture which itself is a very interesting topic. As an example I checked out some Barbie's on Amazon and looked up the curvy one and the petite one and they are quite different and I can easily see how some girls would be more interested in those. Also there's a good deal of Barbies of different skin tones which is another good thing Mattel has done.

It's altogether a pretty interesting book.
