The Justice Tree

The story opens with a car having a blowout and then crashing.

There are at least three guys. One is awake and takes a gun from one of the other guys. One of the other guys wakes up and the guy with the gun shoots him.

We see a mother and her son (who has a treehouse.)

The mother says the tree has been dead a long time and she's worried branches might break and the kid could fall and hurt himself. Meanwhile the crook manages to get out of his handcuffs.

The mother lets the guy inside, not knowing he's a crook.

The kid notices the marks on the crook's wrists and hands. The kid leaves and the crook takes on a job as a handyman there.

The dead tree starts to leaf out. Shortly later he sabotage's the pick-up truck so they can't go anywhere. Joey, the boy, sees him with his head beneath the hood.

The boy was up in the garage when the crook came in to try to hide his gun. The crook leaves and the boy takes the gun to his mother.

The obnoxious kid runs, allowing the crook to catch him and negate the mother's ability to shoot him.

The kid grabs the gun, runs outside and throws the gun into the well. The crook follows the kid to his treehouse.

A branch breaks and somehow the crook is hung. Newland comes on then and says that particular tree was known in the area as the hanging tree.
