Signal Received

The episode opens with Hail Brittania and British ships at sea. It then shows shells being loaded up board one of the ships. It shows sailors going on board and then focuses on three sailors walking through part of the town. The three are on a seven-day leave.

One of the sailors wants to get married right away but the girls says not yet.

The sailor turns the channel on the radio and suddenly hears a broadcast tha the H.M.S. Hood, his ship, was sunk 'by enemy action.' She checks with her uncle who works at the radio station and they go there and he says there was no such broadcast.

Then things move on to the next sailor. The mother says she's had a recurring dream of getting a telegram saying her son is missing in action, believed killed.

The third sailor is with some other people and they are doing something which is like using an ouija board (which should be totally avoided, by the way.) It says that he will live to a ripe old age and will not be on his ship for the next year, at least.

One of the guys is on a train and sees this headline. When he looks at it a moment later, though, the headline has changed. Then later the three guys talk and the one says he got the message that he will live to a ripe old age. Since he will live a long time he assumes the other two will also live a long time since they are all supposed to be on the same boat at the same time.

A short time later at the pub a woman appears and says she can read a person's fortune from their hands. For the guy that has been told he will live a long time she sees nothing but happiness and contentment. The one guy who is supposed to live a long time gets a transfer order so he won't be on the H.M.S. Hood.

The guy on the right is the guy who was given a transfer order which kept him from being on the ship when it was sunk.

Then there's a 'salute' to the Hood and the men who died.
