The Avengers

Newland talks about the castle, roughly where it is, and says there are supposed to be ghosts there. He shows a painting of the next-to-last occupants of the place. In 1943 it became occupied by the Nazis.

The title.

The guy on the left is a general who had suffered a heart attack and is now recovering. He has a plan for trapping some workers that the Nazi's need.

They are dressing as French nobles. She hears a sound but the general doesn't. Then they both hear music. The musicians aren't playing any music, though. The music suddenly stops.

No one shows up for the party, though, except a Nazi officer and a priest. The general wants to know where all the people in the town went. The priest says all the people fled into the countryside. He wants to turn the priest over to a labor camp but the woman that is there says he shouldn't do that.

The general slaps her and she goes to a room alone. There she hears laughter and the voice of a young girl calling for her mother. She runs downstairs and tells the general about the things she's been hearing in the other room. Then the window blows open and a fountain starts to work.

The general tells the priest that the next time a 'miracle' occurs he will kill him and throw his body onto the lawn.

The woman says she warned the priest about the trap that was passing itself off as a party. The general kills the woman. There are sounds from the outside that sound like a riot.

He fires his gun. The door opens and he seems to be pushed against a wall and strangled. Newland then talks about what happened in the 1700's and notes that the general was listed as dying of a heart attack but, in addition, most or all of his bones were broken as if he had been trampled to death which is what happened to the guy in the 1700's.
