Blood Flower

The narrator starts off by saying that plants have a nervous system and feel pain. He adds that plants respond favorably to human encouragement. He also says some plants can produce unusual effects on humans.

This is a 'South American university.'

He walks around and talks about how picking the flower could lead to violence and then talks about a professor there (on the left.) The story takes place in 1936.

The professor is talking about political science and one student asks him if changes can happen without violence. A guy get angry and disagrees with the professor and the female student. The male student says that their president is a brutal dictator. The student believes that the only way left to change things is by action (violence).

Note that the professor picks up a bloom from the blood flower. He says that the professor is now host to a 'psychic parasite.' He says something had taken over the professor and had a purpose and a plan all its own.

That night he goes to a cemetery to a gravestone of a revolutionary leader.

A woman shows up and talks to him. She's the mother of the dead revolutionary hero and says she knew he would come there to the grave. She tells him to follow her.

The next day (I assume) a box is delivered to him in the classroom. It has a message that basically supports the use of violence.

A blood flower is also in the box. He walks to a window and then turns around talking in Spanish about killing the president.

She tells the professor that there is a traitor in their class and that one of the students in the class had to vanish on purpose. She warns him about what he said. After he gets back to his apartment the landlady says he has to leave. She found a gun in his apartment but he points out he doesn't own one.

He meets the woman from the cemetery and she says something about 'tonight.' Later he enters a bar and then the back room where he addresses each man by name even though he never saw them before. He also finds out that the gun that had been in his room belonged to the dead revolutionary from the cemetery. He tells the guys in the room just how he plans to assassinate the president. We learn a couple of minutes later that the president's men know and plan an ambush.

The professor gets to the door of the bedroom but seems to sense the ambush. He kills the president and is killed by the guards.
