Urban Shaman

Joanne Walker is primarily a mechanic, working on police cars. She's on the police force but most of her time has been spent on the cars.

Then she spots a woman being chased by dogs and a man. She investigates, and finds out that Cernunnos, a Celtic God, seems to be moving on The Wild Hunt. Joanne is half-Cherokee, but has never really worked that much with spiritual things before.

Now, it seems the choice is being taken away from her as she meets Coyote, apparently her spirit guide, in the dreamworld. She's also almost killed by Cerunnos but seems to wound him severely. On the other hand, he has human helpers, and she could be in danger from them.

Some schoolchildren are killed by the someone, and the situation gets worse for Joanne. The complex story involves not only Cerunnos, but the being known as Herne the Hunter. It also involves jealousy, ancient Babylon, numerous shamans, a massive power outage, more appearances by Coyote, more activity by Gary, the cab-driver, and a lot more pain for Joanne.

As I said, it's a complex story, and you need to stay with it until the end. Everything falls into place, and Joanne's place in the world becomes a little clearer to her.
