My Little Chef episode 1

This is the former owner of a restaurant who apparently had money problems and lost his chef, too. He's Kenzo's brother.

The Etiole is the restaurant that Kensaku used to run until Kenzo (right), his chef, suddenly quit and vanished, leaving Kensaku with his gambling debts.

Seri (left). Kenzo admits that he lost his sense of taste after Ser tricks him by putting salt in his pumpkin soup. He wants Seri to go to Tokyo and save the Etiole.

(Left) Where Seri's father had opened his own organic vegetable restaurant. Unfortunately, it failed within a year. Seri's step-mother brings Seri her father's knife set. Her mother and father had divorced after he decided to open the restaurant that eventually failed, and then he was killed in some kind of accident. Seri's sister, Nazuna (right), plans to join her in Tokyo.

Seri and her sister are going to stay at Kenzo's house, but the former manager (left) is also living there. Seri's sister Nazuna (center) is outspoken whereas Seri is shy and naive. Seri has offered to cook dinner (after he's told them to leave the next morning), and she's gone outside to find something to use in her cooking and he's kind of wondering what she's up to.

He finds he soup is delicious. Seri decided on what to fix by looking at an old photo that he had of him and Kenzo in a small restaurant.

The risotto she fixes is exactly like his grandmother had made him years ago.The guy comes in and grabs her.

While they were sleeping he cleaned her father's knives. They go ahead and start to set a restaurant up.

Todo, (left) and another chef will also be working in the kitchen. Her sister is going to become a part-time waitress there.

He has uniforms for everyone. The name means "little star."

King's Restaurant, another dorama series, came much earlier, running from 1995 to 1997, whereas My Little Chef is a 2002 series. This first episode reminds me of that series, even ending with the same sort of cliffhanger that each episode of King's Restaurant ended with. There are other similarities. In both series the main chef is female, and in both series you have two brothers (manager and chef in one, old owner and new owner in another). Even one of the actors was in King's Restaurant.

So far, at least as this first episode goes (and I'm writing the reviews as I watch each episode), I really like this. There's some good humor, a lot of good acting and I just happen to like kitchen-centered doramas.
