Dark Shadows episode 17

David is sleeping and saying he didn't (do something). Even denying things when he's asleep. He wakes up and opens a window. Elizabeth comes running in. He says I didn't kill him.'

Let's see. Means? Vickie caught David in the garage and there was some kind of tool he had. Motive? He already has said he wants Roger dead. Opportunity? He was in the garage with Roger's car.

The scene shifts to some guy at a Doctor's house. The guy says he wants to take another look at the wreck. Roger was in the doctor's office. The doctor tells him he could have easily died in the wreck. The doctor talks about ten years ago when a guy was killed on that hill and Roger says Burke Devlin was sent to prison for that.

Back in David's room the window comes open and he yells for Elizabeth. He asks her to stay in the room with him. (Guilty conscience?) He wants to know when Roger will be back. Then he asks Elizabeth not to let anyone hurt him. The guy tells Roger that the brakes had been tampered with. He shows Roger a drawing of the missing part which happens to match what we saw David had in his hand earlier. Roger suspects Burke was the one to tamper with the brakes.

Back in the drawing room Elizabeth is talking about one of the ancestors. He asks Elizabeth if she hated her father. David hears Roger in a car pulling up and starts yelling he doesn't want to see him. Roger says his arm has a sprain. Then we see David sneaking around as usual. Elizabeth tells Roger that Vickie saw Burke in the garage with Roger's car earlier that evening.

There's no doubt that David was the one to remove the part and try to kill Roger and that Roger is going to blame everything on Burke. Looking around on the Net it seems someone David's age found guilty of attempted murder would, at most, get ninety days in a juvenile detention facility.
