Barnabas Collins

The story takes place in the past somewhere between 1865 and 1948, and concerns Margaret Collins. She has a handicapped daughter, Greta. The family finances aren't good. A guy named Luke is the handyman, and he's retarded but devoted to Greta and is a good worker.

Margaret meets Banabas who says he's a cousin from England and he wants to use the Old House. He has one servant, Hare, who's really nasty and ugly. He says 'my taste in nourishment is somewhat peculiar.' Later a bat enters Margaret's room.

Patience is a maid who Barnabas gets to know (and control) in his own way. Granny Entwhistle reads tea leaves. She says 'a black bird of evil is over this house.' Greta is shown to look just like Josette. Barnabas begins gnawing on Greta, also. Then a girl named Judith is added to the mix.

Margaret finds out about Barnabas, someone dies suspicious, Patience's health worsens, there's some hypnosis, and yet another person dies. It all makes for a really fascinating story, sort of a horror mystery, really, like two of the other books in the series I have read so far.
