Eureka Episode 1: Pilot

The basic plot of the episode is that Sheriff Jack Carter is transporting his daughter who has behaviorial problems when their car ends up in a ditch due to a dog. They walk to the nearest town where it seems that his car can be fixed in a few days and they can be on their way but things start going wrong with a boy goes missing and the sheriff finds him even though everyone else had missed him.

A scientist's experiment has gone wrong and strange things start happening. Then the town's actual sheriff is injured in one of the events and Carter is allowed to help out. We find out who the big meany is for many seasons (Beverly) and she kills her first person. Then a supposed ghost is spotted and even more things go wrong, but Carter is able to solve the problems (although Beverly is not suspected.) He finally is able to leave Eureka but not long after is given a promotion to the position of sheriff of the town.

Carter just as he gets to town. Through the series he learns a lot but he's not up intellectually to the level of most of the people there, but his common sense and observational skills allow him to get major problems solved. He's attracted to Allison right off but she's still married to Stark. After his death he and Allison become a couple and then get married.

His daughter Zoey. She's got a lot of problems with the fact that her parents are divorced. She has a lot of behavioral problems, especially early on in the series. She's quite independent and quite smart. Eventually she goes off to college and is not in many episodes from that point on.

Josefina, the deputy sheriff, who does not like Carter at all for a while. She's not happy about being a deputy and not getting appointed to sheriff especially after the town's actual sheriff resigns. She's military through-and-through and early on in the series has some very impressive weapons but that's toned down later.

Henry, one of the smartest and busiest people in the entire town. He runs a garage but he also takes care of burials, engineering problems and also spiritual problems as he's a deacon. He's extremely nice but is alone until after the time-shift arc when he then suddenly has a wife.

Allison who has to be one of the hottest women in any science-fiction series ever. She holds a number of positions at Global Dynamics over the years. She has a son with autism until after the time-shift arc when her son is suddenly grown up a lot and is fine. She is married to Stark for a while then, after his death, she ends up with the sheriff.

Beverly, one of the most evil villains in any series ever. Just to begin with she can be charged with murder (first episode, right off), kidnapping, espionage and treason. What is bothersome is that she gets away with her crimes and never really pays for what she's done to others. She's working for the Consortium, a group that wants to rip off Eureka's discoveries to make themselves rich.

Taggart who is not quite all there. A major game hunter he also works at times at GD but his behavior is quirky at best.

One of the running jokes in the series is just how many times Carter's jeep gets destroyed from one cause or another. There's a lot of humor in the series. The plots are generally interesting. One, on other continuing character is SARAH, the automated house that Carter ends up living in.

Although Fargo was in this episode his was basically a bit part. He becomes more important later. Nathan Stark appears in episode 2 as Allison's separated husband.
