Rani in the Mermaid Lagoon

This is the sixth book in the Fairies series and is about Rani, the fairy who had to sacrifice her wings in order to save Mother Dove in an earlier work. In this one she feels she's no longer complete, that she's somehow inadequate since she no longer has her wings. She accidentally damages a fountain during a party and basically runs away.

She ends up at the mermaid's lagoon and, being a water-type fairy, has no problem swimming with the mermaids and visiting them. They treat her almost like a pet, but we learn that mermaids have extremely short attention spans.

Rani risks her life, basically, trying to retrieve a ring for one of them, and in the meantime all the mermaids have gone elsewhere to their next interest. In the end Rani finds out that her fairy friends miss her terribly and will welcome her back, and that she is fine just as she is.

Another nice book in the series, especially with its message of accepting oneself no matter what a person's limitations are.
