Catching Fire

This is the second book in the series. There's the Victory Tour. Katness and Peeta will be presenting themselves as lovers although they're not really getting along that well. Both of them have PTSD.

There's some really bad things happening during that Victory Tour and it's obvious that the Peacekeepers are nothing but killing thugs. They and Snow don't seem to understand that the more vicious they are towards the citizens the more hatred will build in their hearts.

You can keep the people down for a long time but, sooner or later, they will rise up and fight back.

District 12 gets bombed, nearly wiping it out. Here's where I have one question. The district was responsible for mining coal which was supposedly necessary to keep Panem working. Killing the workers and destroying the district equals no way for the coal to be mined.

So either the coal wasn't really important at all or there's going to be a major shortage of power (although some of the power is supplied by hydroelectric power but, then again, at least one of the dams used to make that power is blown up.)

Snow wants a certain wedding dress for Katness to wear but it turns out to be a lot more meaningful when she's interviewed, another act which is really a show of defiance towards Snow. All the tributes hold hands which is yet another act of defiance. There is no doubt that Snow will be going to retaliate because defiance is something he hates.

So another Hunger Games is set up with the 'contestants' being victors from previous games. What's show quite well is how the Capitol can manipulate the environment that the arena is in to force the tributes to fight things they haven't seen before, including poisonous fog.

The worst thing for Snow is when Katness manages to destroy the dome surrounding the arena.

The book is just as good as the first one especially as you see the flow of events moving strongly in the direction of full revolt against the Capitol. It also shows just how far a government will go to control its people and, if they decide to, kill them without any concern for what will happen.
