Katniss the Cattail
The book is subtitled An Unauthorized Guide to Names and Symbols in Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, thus giving us a good idea of just what this book will be about.
The book has a number of interesting points including:
Panem comes from the bread and circuses concept of ancient Rome.
Katniss is an edible plant.
Peeta relates to pita which is a type of bread.
The book covers religious references to names used.
There are specific names of people in Panem and where the names are taken from.
There's a section on symbols and one on illusions to literature and life.
There's a list of districts and their products.
>Some names are mythological in origin. Some are made up, some have historical references and some come from Shakespeare.
om2>One of the major points of this book is that it covers some things that I haven't yet found covered in another book (although other books do have a list of districts and what they produce.) It's interesting to see the derivation of terms used in the books and the movies.
