Main points of: Dystopia and Violence in the Hunger Games Trilogy

Some of the main points of this article include:

The Hunger Games has elements of dystopian fiction including an authoritarian government, lack of various freedoms and lots of violence.

The dystopian nature of the series is fairly obvious right from the start.

Fear of surveillance is means of social control.

The people in District 12 may not trust the others in the district.

There are class differences even with the districts.

The Seam, the mining part of the district, is the lowest class level and that's where Katniss, her mother and her sister live.

Strict obvious racial differences are not as noticeable (except for District 11) and it might mean there's been a blending of the races over time.

The games serve the purpose of discouraging revolt against the Capitol.

The Capitol's message to the districts is along the lines of they can take the children from the districts and force them to kill each other and there is nothing the districts can do to stop that from happening.

Districts are not allowed to communicate with other districts.

The scene were Katniss covers Rue with flowers is censored from the Capitol's vision.

The games themselves include environmental threats such as poisonous fog, deadly insects and fireballs.

Dead tributes can be somewhat (?) turned into violent dogs that attack any surviving tributes.

Even if you win the games the Capitol still ends up controlling the person.
