Katniss as a Representation of Girl Power in Hunger Games trilogy

Hunger Games is a dystopian fiction.

Katniss starts off as a girl without power but soon obtains a degree of power.

Katniss is portrayed as a strong and independent young woman.

She has both mental and physical skills, especially in her use of the bow and arrow.

Katniss shows girl power through her actions, words and thoughts.

Girl power can be shown in her independence and her self-determination.

Other strong women in fiction include Lara Croft, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena, among others.

Katniss makes her own decisions often (but is sometimes forced into a certain decision because others have pushed her into that position such as wearing fancy clothes during the interviews.)

She shows her reactions to a society that wants to control her.

She chooses her companions, generally.

She doesn't even want to think about love (or having sex) for nearly the entire series.

She survived on brains and brawn.

She can think ahead such as when she has her and Peeta threaten suicide knowing that the games must have a victor and so they will give in and allow two victors that one time.
