Chobits

The story opens in the future when there are androids called persocoms who are beautiful girls and computers, all at the same time. Hideki Motosuwa isa 19-year old student who went to Tokyo to go to cram school to student for his college entrance exams. His parents pulled his allowance, though, and he has to go to work. He finds a persocom left in a trashheap and takes it home with him.

He finds out that she has no internal data in her memory. He goes to an expert on the computers and finds out that she might be something called a Chobit. She is also capable of learning things even without an obvious operating system.

As time goes on Hideki is able to teach Chi various words and it's obvious that she learns quickly and she is totally, completely devoted to him.

There's a major question about her past, too; just what is she? There's also Hideki's teacher who wants to stay over night at his place.

The story goes on, telling about the various difficulties that Hideki and Chi run in to, and is an excellent examination of just what love can be and the lengths that a person is willing to go to to be in love.

The only thing I can't understand, though, is why someone would build a Chobit with the reset button where it is in Chi. I know that helps the story along, but it still doesn't seem to be a very logical place to put it.
