Cutey Honey

Volume 1

Volume 2

Volume 3

Volume 1: A bank robbery goes wrong and as the thieves make their getaway, they almost run over their own son. The mayor of the town says it is being overrun by criminals, and is promptly attacked by a majorly nasty bike gang. The mayor's assistant turns out to be a super-heroine, Cutey Honey. Once awakened to her own nature she valiantly combats the evil threatening to destroy the city.

Of course the seriousness of the theme is somewhat tempered by Cutey's necessity to strip completely between costume changes, and by a diminutive lecherous old man who says he knows her from the past.

In the second episode the Jewel Princess attacks Honey while she is shopping at her jewelry story. An evil being called the Virtual Hacker is introduced, and more is shown of Dolmeck, the dark figure behind all the evil events going on in the city. Cutey ends up captured and embedded in plastic. Things end up looking pretty grim.

Volume 2: Honey ends up having to combat people who can instantly change into gross monsters by injecting some kind of substance into themselves. Dolmeck, meanwhile, is shown not only to be powerful on the ground, but to have his own spaceship fortress. Dolmeck is shown to want to raise evil spirits, and the battle on the spaceship becomes incredibly intense.

Volume 3: The opening song is in English and, in my opinion, really sucks bad. The story concerns a mad bomber in the city (I am the mad bomber what bombs at midnight!). A bomb is stolen, and criminals are fighting amongst themselves to take over Dolmeck's spot. A really nasty acid-spewing creature is introduced.

Rating: I think the series is ok. Quite a bit of violence, a fairly decent story and Cutey Honey's nude form all combine to make a rather interesting series. I would not recommend this for the real young children, though.
