Amber and Jeanie are identical twins that are going to a boarding school. Their Aunt Jessie is the headmistress, but she's going to be going away for several months. Her assistant is a really old and very nasty woman.
Their aunt has told them they cannot tell anyone they are identical twins because there are some kind of rumors about such a situation. They also find out students have disappeared in the brushlands surrounding the schools.
(Okay. A technical point here. First, if they can't let anyone know they are identical twins, and one has to act as if she's a year older, then wouldn't they probably end up enrolled in different grade levels? That itself could cause problems for one or both of them. Secondly, if the assistant is so concerned about this rumor, and she gets two girls that look alike, wouldn't she bother to go through their application and check their ages? Of course, Aunt Jessie could have altered the records, I guess.)
Soon they both end up having exactly the same dream, numerous times. They get invited to a party in a girl's room and it turns out the girls there are trying to hold a seance. One of the girls becomes ill and later disappears.
This is a good, very spooky story and shows a lot of promise.
Volume 2
The story opens with Millie talking about how great it would be to be able to live forever. She, of course, is the one who went missing in the first volume. Millie's body has been found. Many students are leaving the school permanently. Amber has taken to her bed.
The one teacher left talks to Jeanie about the old vice-principal and superstitions. Amber tells the teacher about her terrible nightmares. Jeanie finds out that over twenty students have gone missing over the years from that school.
Amber's nightmares continue. Some of the history of the old vice-principal is given, along with history of one of the teachers. Then the old vice-principal disappears and Amber claims to have talked to a dead girl.
Really good second volume.
