Five Star Stories

Warning about his review. The version that I watched was in Japanese, no subtitles at all. Since my knowledge of Japanese is pretty limited I may make some factual errors in this review but I'm trying to do it without looking at anyone else's review so mine is sort of "pristine."

The story opens in some form of laboratory where a nude woman is in a healing fluid/stasis chamber. Scenes are shown of some form of war with giant mechs, and then we see a young woman asleep in her bedroom.

The woman wakes and exits the chamber; meanwhile we're shown two planets, one where there is some form of floating island in the air and the other where a spaceship crashes. The pilot is male but looks female as far as his fair and facial features go. An incredibly huge land vehicle picks him up and gives him a ride.

The pilot leaves the vehicle and goes to a house which contains the lab from above. Later he's in a town which is a cross between a Clint Eastwood-type western town and a Mideast town. Meanwhile a young woman escapes from a building and some rough guys decide to give here a hard time.

A stranger arrives with a light saber and dispatches her attackers. They show a really fat, ugly guy. I'm going to call him the mayor since he seems to be in charge of things. Anyhow, he wants the woman back.

To complicate things the pilot sees another young woman in the same building, one he has feelings for. The girl is being held captive by the mayor and at one point is attacked by him in a rape effort which only ends with the mayor having a non-lethal heart attack.

Some form of floating vision appears to the pilot several times in the movie and I don't have a clue who she is. It then seems that the mayor is trying to marry off the pilot's girl but she doesn't want anyone. The pilot appears, rescues her, and they flee, pursued by a huge red spaceship, several mechs and a host of vehicles and armed men.

Another group of military attacks the mansion with the lab and are quickly dispatched by several robed figures with light sabers and other weapons.

Meanwhile the pilot and the girl have been shot down and are cornered with the mayor's entire army attacking. Suddenly the ground cracks open and an incredibly huge mech appears. The pilot and girl take their places in control seats and the battle begins.

I'll leave the ending out. The graphics are very good in the movie and, if I am interpreting what is happening fairly correctly, the story is also quite good and romantic. Mech anime is not my major interest but the movie still, I felt, was well done, interesting and worth watching.
