Ghost Hunt Volumes 5 and 6

Volume 5

Mai finds out Shibuya basically conned her into working for him at first. Some of the group spot the same spirit dog from earlier, but it seems to have grown and gotten even meaner. It also becomes evident that Mai has visions/dreams that can show what is going to happen in the future.

The more they find out the more complicated things to be. There's an ancient cemetery involved, a number of spirits, and the ouija-like game the students got involved in. Later Mai ends up in the school at night alone and sees things then loses consciousness.

There's another instance of Mai having a dream vision that gives her information about what is going on plus an indication of what could happen in the future. The entity causes a ceiling to collapse and almost crushes Mai.

They figure out that there is some kind of curse involved behind all of the events. It's a curse to murder someone. It's aimed at a teacher who's really nasty, especially about anything having to do with superstitions and belief in them.

Mai wants to stop the curse from being reversed since it could kill a bunch of students.

Volume 6

Mai finds out who taught Shibuya about ghost hunting. They have a new case and it involves the Prime Minister of Japan. Mai senses something wrong right off. It also turns out that not only has the regular group been called in on this, but a group of similar adults has been called in on the case.

At least two people have disappeared from a building. There's also a reference to renovations being done every year even though nothing was actually necessary, which is like the Winchester mansion out west that a woman had renovated every year, thinking as long as she would do that she would not die.

The mansion the group is investigating is very similar to that one in structure and how there were things like doors opening into a wall, or stairs leading to with no exit at the top.

I was too soon. The story actually refers to the Winchester House.

Mai has another dream vision of someone in a bathtub full of blood. The team takes careful measurements of all the rooms and finds out that there seem to be spaces that cannot be accounted for, which they think could be hidden rooms. The two groups meet and hold a seance. Then later someone goes missing. The group finds a hidden room with an old coat and money in it.

Lin turns out to be Chinese and says he hates the Japanese for what they did in China in the past. Then another person disappears. The group finds a another hidden room and a portrait inside.

Then, Mai either is having a dream vision or something is really happening to her (the story continues into the next volume so there's no way to know which it really is) where a couple of guys take her from the room she's sleeping in and someone plans to kill her.
