Golden Boy

Golden Boy Volume 3

This is a delightful story about a student named Kintaro Oe. He's managed to do everything he needs to become a lawyer, but chose not to graduate and instead is touring Japan, taking notes in a spiral binder and learning about people.

This particular episode has him employed at a small noodle restaurant. He falls for the daughter of the shop's owner, but it seems that an extremely rich man has also taken an interest in the girl. This is the man who helped the family when the father was run over by a car in a hit-and-run accident.

Unfortunately, all is not as simple as it seems as Kintaro soon finds out. In this episode we are also given a glimpse of some kind of dark past of his, some kind of training that he underwent that has given him extremely strong fighting skills.

The entire series is delightful. Kintaro's not a perfect person, of course, but in his actions he functions almost in the role of a guardian spirit, doing good without necessarily thinking of personal benefit.

Golden Boy 5

In this episode Kintaro is again on his bicycle and ends up being passed by a beautiful woman on a powerful motorcycle. It turns out that the woman on the motorcycle is really a "proper" daughter in full traditional Japanese dress; but she tends to sneak out, change, and go dashing away on her motorcycle.

She is also somewhat on the arrogant side and makes the assumption that Kintaro's interest in sex will not be enough to allow him to beat her motorcycle with his bicycle.

Does she ever have a surprise waiting for her! Another excellent episode, delightful comedy and well worth adding to your anime collection.

Golden Boy 6

Kintaro takes a job at an animation studio that has become over burdened under a tight deadline. One thing after another goes wrong on the production and it looks more and more like the company won't be able to fulfill their contract, opening up the studio to a breach of contract suit.

But once again Kintaro rises to the occasion. He ends up calling in all the women he met in earlier episodes who lend their expertise and aid to the studio to help them get the movie done on time.

It happens, also, that all the women are in love with Kintaro, too, adding even more to the wonderful comedy in the episode. Again another must-get episode of the series. Oh, heck, buy the whole series!
