Kitchen Princess, Volumes 5 and 6

Volume 5

Daichi tells Najika that the kiss didn't mean anything. It was her first kiss ever and she gets really upset. The second round of the competition is getting started. Sora helps her learn about various types of deserts that are available. Then there's something about Sora talking to his father about why Najika was brought to the academy in the first place, setting up some kind of mystery.

Najika has injured her wrist, but Daichi helps her wrap it up so she can use it without pain. She succeeds in the second round even though she is initially looked down up by the judges since she's only in junior high.

She gets to meet Daichi and Sora's father, the director of the academy. Apparently he is planning to use her, (especially the part about her parents being famous pastry chefs and her being the only survivor of the accident), to bring attention (and money) to the academy. She overhears him and Sora talking about various plans for her and she gets really upset.

Sora apologizes to her and tells her he doesn't agree with what his father wants to do. Sora stands up to his father, but his father will kick Najika out of the academy if she doesn't win the competition. Sora gets some special beans for her to use but he's injured in a car accident.

Then there's a flashback to how Najika ended up working at the diner. It also shows one of the earliest times other girls at the school made trouble for her.

Volume 6

Sora is in critical condition in the hospital. Sora tells Najika that he's not really her flan prince. Sora dies. Najika has lost her sense of taste. Najika manages to make her desert but then passes out.

The other students turn on her since Sora had been getting something for her when he was hit; she lost the competition, and now the director tells her to leave the academy. Daichi promises to help her stay at the academy, and even Akane helps her.

Daichi gets permission for her to stay, but she's already left. She goes back to visit the house she and her parents had lived in. Daichi and the others find her, and she gets her sense of taste back. On the otehr hand, although she is allowed to return to the academy, she's dropped from the special class to the normal class and the other students don't like her.

She's also not allowed to live in the dorms, but has to live at the diner. Then a new student is selected to reploace Najika as the school spokesmen. The guy that replaces her looks like Sora, but he's a really, really nasty person.

This is followed by a flashback story from Sora's viewpoint.
