Paranormal Investigators

This is another CLAMP series and is unusual in its format. The manga is more of an illustrated novel than a traditional manga. There is a group of five students who investigate unusual paranormal-type events on the school's campus. They want to become recognized an an "official" club, but so far they have met only with opposition.

There's a series of stories and they are all interesting, but what fascinates me most is that one of the characters, Yuki Ajadou, is transgendered. There's no Ranma-type curse involved, no genetic predisposition to looking female, as in Here is Greenwood. Rather, this characters is presented as being a true transgendered individual, born male but knowing that they really should be female. The concept of Yuki's being transgendered is done with grace and consideration, and that alone would cause me to continue buying this series.

The second volume is done the same way as the first; basically, it's a regular novel-type of book with a minimum of illustrations, except for a short section at the story's end. The stories are ok, but overall somewhat disappointing.
