Planetes

This is somewhat different from the type of manga I normally read. This seems to be a very, very serious type of manga. It's very well done and the stories are quite meaningful and interesting.

This is the story set in the future about people on board a spaceship that collects garbage in orbit around the earth; spent rocker parts, canisters, whatever they can find.

The first story deals with the past of one of the crew and how he lost his wife in a spaceship accident. It's a very powerful and well-done story.

The second story revolves around one of the crew getting hurt and having to go to a hospital on the moon. He is sort of suffering from space fatigue, in that he's wanting to go back to earth and it looks he may want to stay there and not be in space anymore. There's another plot that revolves around an older spaceman who wants to die while on the moon and a 12-year-old girl who was actually born and raised on the moon.

There are also a group of terrorists who don't want earth polluting space and are blowing up various buildings. The crew has to end up using their ship to stop one of the terrorist ships from hitting a space station and killing lots of people.

So they end up on Earth for while. They return to the moon in order to get a replacement ship, but one of the crewmembers is having psychological problems and may lose his license for EVA forever.
