Pretty Sammy: The Magical Girl

Pretty Sammy, the Magical Girl, is another alternate-universe Tenchi story. Some things are the same, of course, as Ryoko and Aeka are still fighting over Tenchi (figuratively and literally). Tenchi lives with Sasami in this version, however, with their mother being a singer.

Meanwhile, in a magical kingdom, Tsuanami is in line to be crowed but must complete a test first, apparently having to choose someone to become a magical girl. She chooses Sasami. Matters are not easy, however, as another woman wants the crown and will do anything she can, including creating her own magical girl, to stop Tsuanami from being crowned.

Another difference is that, in this version, Sasami, Tenchi, Ryoko and Aeka all go to the same school (and end up being late due to the fights Ryoko and Aeka get in.)

Mihoshi and Keyone are in this version also, living together, with Mihoshi working in a record shop. Sasami is given the task of delivering a CD to a spooky mansion. When she gets there she is met by Tsuanami who tells her she will become a magical girl. Ryo-oki is also there, and in this version talks.

Finally, Washuu moves into the neighborhood, getting Tenchi and Mihoshi to help move her furniture in.

The main focus of the story centers on the battle between the two magical girls, the mystery of who the other magical girl is, and the creation of love-love monsters out of Ryoko and Aeka.

Review and rating: This is a fairly good story when taken as an alternate-universe one. Seeing the characters is different roles is quite interesting, and the entire magical girl concept is done well. There is a problem, in my opinion, over the creation of the "love-love" monsters; they seem somewhat hokey to me, and I think something could have been done there that would have been more believable and work better in the story. Otherwise, the story is good and worth viewing.

I'm also including some other photos of Pretty Sammy/Sasami.
