This is an article about Admiral Chester Nimitz. May 8, 1942. The Japanese with two carriers, 4 heavy cruisers and many destroyers. The Japanese had a carrier damaged and one sunk. The Lexington was sunk. The importance of the battle was that it blocked the Japanese advance on Port Moresby. Midway was the next battle for the Japanese fleet and that one changed the course of the war.
