Morning Musume Best 10 MTV Clips

1. Ai No Tane ("Seeds of Love") . This is an extremely interesting song in that it shows that, individually, the girls' voices are not that great, but when put together, their harmonies become very, very good. It's also a cute song, quite lively and with the girls presented in natural settings.

2. Morning Coffee. I really like this song. It emphasizes the girls' harmonizing abilities, and the video seems perfectly geared to this. Sometimes when there are numerous special effects it actually detracts from the singing, but in this cut the video compliments the singing, and the singing compliments the video.

3. Summer Night Town. This is a fairly good song, but the video is not up to their usual standards. It's a rather monotonous video with few changes of scene; it's almost as if the budget for this video was very limited, so the talents of the girls do not get the attention they deserve.

4. Daite Hold on Me ("Hold Me, Hold on Me") : Most of this song is pretty good. The music is good and the visuals are quite interesting. The girls appear in a wide variety of places and outfits, and there is one sequence which looks as if it were from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

5. Memory seishun no hikari ("Memory, the Light of Youth") : This one just doesn't seem to work. First off, it reminds me of many X-Files episode; everything is so dark it seems like someone forgot to pay the electric bill. The singing is just not up to par; at times it actually is so dissonant it grates on ones nerves. The rapping portion (in English by male rappers) doesn't seem to add to the video, either. It's just sort of there, not really related to everything else. This is the rare Morning Musume song that I just don't like at all.

6. Manatsu no kosen ("A Ray of Light in Midsummer") : The video is an interesting contrast between happiness/brightness and sadness/darkness. There is also some rather pretty scenery and the song itself showcases the girls harmonizing abilities.

7. Furusato ("Hometown") . This is a very sedate song with a strong air of sadness about it. There are many beautiful scenery sights along with various baby pictures of some of the Morning Musume members. It's a nice song, but there is one annoying thing, and that's the over-repetition of a sound which reminds me of an R2-D2 beeping noise; it is dissonant with the general tone of the song and gets to be annoying very quickly, distracting from the overall impact of the video.

8. Love Machine: This one opens with a variety of special effects/computer type work which continues throughout the song. The song is so high energy that you almost get tired just looking at it. Innumerable costume changes, dance routines, ultra-quick video shots all combine to make this one ultra-high energy throughout; a fascinating and good music video.

9. Koi No Dance Site ("Love's Dance Site") : This one takes place with an Arabian-nights type background and music vaguely similar in general tone. However, it's Arabian-nights type music basically done by people sound and acting like they have just consumed a six-pack of Jolt Cola along with a handful of double-chocolate candy bars melted and covering various pep pills.

In other words, super-speed strangeness. Funny, super-speed strangeness. Not exactly a song you'd hum along with as you were out walking, but cute, nevertheless.

10. Happy Summer Wedding: This one takes strange to new levels. It opens with the girls in Indian belly-dancing outfits (sort of a continuance from the previous song but at a more sedate pace) (actually, not really sedate, but almost anything would be sedate by comparison to the previous song), but also ends up showing the girls in hick-type outfits and some type of ceremonial outfits. The tune itself is actually quite funny, the music basically hilarious in parts. The best way to describe it is that it's a fun song.
