Puffy AmiYumi concert

I got really, really lucky and was able to attend a Puffy AmiYumi concert. It was the first concert I'd been to in a while and I had never been to the place before, so I didn't know what to expect. I went with a friend and he said there would probably be a “swag” table there which sold merchandise. There was, and again I got lucky. The first thirty copies of their new cd (which hadn't actually been released yet) had been autographed, and I got a copy, along with a copy of Nice and Illustrated History, plus two fans.

The opening group played for about a half-hour, and then another half-hour passed while the equipment was changed on the stage.

It was a fairly small crowd, and I was with a friend. It was standing only on the floor itself (although there was a raised area in the back with some tables.) Most of the people were near the stage; my friend and I stood in the middle of the floor. When Puffy AmiYumi came on there were greeted enthusiastically. They are one of the very rare groups who, when they perform live, actually sound better than they do on CD.

They did some songs that I already knew (from the three CDs of theirs that I already had), and they also did other songs, especially from their new CD. Their singing was great, and the guitar players and other musicians did an excellent job. They were dressed in rather normal clothing, nothing glitzy, no fancy costumes. They moved around quite a bit, but still in what to me was a somewhat subdued fashion, no really wild movements.

Puffy AmiYumi performed for an hour-and-a-half and everyone that was there seemed to love their concert. I was very, very glad I got to be there and actually see them live.
