Afterlife

This is a rather small book but a good one. A guy and his wife are driving and are hit by a BMW. He dies and she's badly injured. That's the start of the book, as the rest of it concerns what happens to the guy in the afterlife.

The afterlife is more complicated than it is thought of. Some die and move on to the light, but others remain as ghosts. The main problem is the ghosts that want to be born again and quickly, and who will, in essence, hijack a fetus before the soul that was meant for it can enter.

Thus, the Watchers, a group of ghosts that tries to prevent that very thing from happening. It turns out the guy's wife was pregnant, so this brings him into contact with the Watchers.

The entire book is rather dark, but it's written well and it remains interesting throughout.
