A Bone to Pick

This is the second book in the Aurora Teagarden mystery series. Aurora, or Roe, starts off the series as a part-time librarian, and also works for her mother who is a realtor. Roe has lost her boyfriend who is now going to marry some other woman.

She's also going to a funeral for a friend of hers. She soon learns that her friend has left her quite a bit of money, her house, her cat, and a skull. A human skull. Then her former boyfriend and his new wife move across the street from her house.

Things do not go easily for Roe. She needs to find out who the skull belongs to, why it is in her now-dead friend's house, keep the knowledge of the skull away from a detective who doesn't like her at all, and try to manage a possible developing relationship with a minister.

It's not easy to pin down exactly why this series of books is so good, but it is. The story is interesting, the events reasonable, and the mystery part fascinating. Definitely worth reading.
