Chosen

The book starts with Zoey admitting that she misses Stevie Rae (who was turned into some kind of creature, and who almost everyone things is just plain dead). It's Zoey's birthday.

The novel then briefly brings up other characters from the previous novels to remind us who they are. So is the problem of her once-tutor Neferet. Nefert is behind the supposedly dead members of the House of Night existing as some kind of monsters.

Zoey finds Stevie Rae and tries to talk Stevie into letting her help.

Zoey and Loren, the adult poet, end up kissing and she's incredibly attracted to him.

Aphrodite, the girl who gave Zoey so much trouble in the first two books, ends up taking part in a circle casting since she was called by the goddess Nyx to help. Aphrodite later talks to Zoey and tells her she has had a vision where Neferet kills Stevie Rae by pulling her into the sunlight.

One of the vampire professors is killed. Everyone assumes it was a human from the fanatical religious community in the town (although it's painfully obvious that it was Neferet wanting to start a war against the humans.)

Zoey and the professor have sex (and I'm sure that he's evil and seduced her for his own nefarious purposes. As the X-Files says, “Trust no one.”)

Erik catches her and the professor, and that's one friend lost. Then Zoey catchee Neferet talking to the professor, and it's just as I predicted.

Then things get really moving as undead undie, partially undead become human, poetry dies in the night, friends turn away, and a war is unleashed.

A very good third book in the series.
