Club Dead

This is the third book in the series.

Bill tells Sookie that he's been given an assignment as vampire investigator for Area 5. He also tells her he's working directly, this time, for the vampire Queen of Louisiana.

Then there's some background given on when the vampires came out. It was only after synthetic blood had been developed in Japan, and the Japanese vampires came out first, then those in other countries. The ones in Islamic countries had the roughest time of all, though. Some countries considered them unequal to regular citizens. Some declared them fair game for bounty hunters, and a few countries, including the U.S. and Japan, were more tolerant.

Whatever Bill is investigating is serious, because he tells Sookie he might not come back, and, if he doesn't, she's to retrieve some computer disks he has. Further, she's to tell Eric everything he had just told her, and to place herself under Eric's protection.

Bubba makes another appearance, and how Elvis was turned into a vampire is explained. Bubba gets right real upset if someone calls him Elvis; seems that, sometimes, when a person is “brought over” into being a vampire, things don't always go as planned, and all the drugs and alcohol in his system probably didn't help things, either.

Anyone, he's been set to guard Sookie until some other (and more capable) vampire gets there. Within a couple of minutes of Sookie getting to work, someone (a werewolf in human form) attacks her, but Bubba kills him effectively and efficiently.

Bill goes missing, and Sookie has to go through one attack after another in the book. She gets banged up quite badly. Then there's also a dead werewolf in a closet that has to be dealt with. Sookie also gets to kill someone. She eventually learns about Bill's project, and who killed the werewolf.

There's one heck of a lot of things happening in this quite exciting third book.
