Dead and Gone

This may very well be the best of all the Sookie Stackhouse novels so far. It is also probably the most violent, the most vicious, and the most heart-rendering of them all. The book starts with the crucified body of Crystal, Jason's wife, being found behind Merlottes, and it goes on from there.

Arlene's true colors come out in force. The weres come out of the closet. People are tortured in the most horrible manner possible. The true cause of the death of Sookie's parents becomes known, and who is responsible.

And then there's a war; a civil war among the fairies which bleeds over, quite literally, into the human world, taking its toll of human, were, and fairy alike.

I think this is the best book of the entire series, the most moving, and with a form of personal violence that dwarfs anything else in the series. This is an absolute must-read for anyone who has been reading the series.
