Shining Darkness

This features the 10th doctor, and his companion, Donna. They go to the Andromeda galaxy, and visit a museum. The Doctor and an exhibit are transported onto a spaceship, and Donna ends up on another spaceship trying to track down the first one.

It seems there is a group of humans who hate any kind of robot that seems to have an artificial intelligence, and they are out to build something that can put all the power in the hands of humans alone. There's also a group that is out to stop them.

There's a hilarious group of beings called the Jaftee who change their religion at the drop of a hat. Some of the interaction between them and the humans are so funny you spend half your reading time laughing at what is going on.

There's also a very special robot called Mother that turns out to have her very own touching past story.

The basis of the book, of course, is the subject of prejudice, and how far people will go to push their beliefs on others. (Not the Jaftee, of course; they're too busy inventing new beliefs). The moral message of the book is very strong, and very clear.

An excellent Doctor Who novel.
